Snellgrove Lake is a remote Lake in Western Ontario that is only accessible by floatplane.  It is west of Slate Falls and North of Sioux Lookout, in the Kenora District.  The first season of Monster Quest series on the History Channel highlighted the Sasquatch activity experienced by visitors at the cottage.  They heard wood knocking, sounds, and the cabin was even shaken one night.

At the end of the season the owners secured the cabin and left for the winter.  When they retuned in 2002, ‘something had entered the cabin and destroyed the interior.’  The owners stated that this type of activity was recurrent at the cabin.

A bear expert in the US confirmed it was not a bear based on the insurance footage of the damage; and it could not be a bear since they hibernate during the winter.

The owners placed a board with nails protruding upwards at the base of one of the doors.  Whatever had broken into the cabin stepped on a nail and bled on the board.

Dr. Jeff Meldrum (Idaho State University) and Dr. Curt Nelson (University of Minnesota) were invited by Monster Quest to conduct research at the cabin in August 2005.   They examined the board and found the outline of a print that measured 18 inches on the board.  They also collected blood, tissue and fibres from the board.

The Monster Quest team had an incident on their last night at Snellgrove, when they started a campfire to attract a Sasquatch.  At approximately midnight, a large rock came flying and hit the metal roof of the cabin.  A crew member threw a rock back in the woods and another rock was thrown in their direction.  The crew retreated inside the cabin for the night.  The owner flew in the next day and picked up the crew members.

Back in Minnesota, Dr. Lynn Rogers analysed the hair sample and ‘stated that the hair is like no other hair he has seen.  It does not match mammals’ hair in North America and it certainly isn’t bear.  Dr. Rogers stated, “it looks human”’.

Dr. Curt Nelson began extracting DNA from the dried blood samples. ‘Dr. Nelson said, “it’s identical to human DNA except it had one nucleotide poly-morphism.”  This is the same difference humans share with chimpanzees.  The narrator of the show said, “DNA says primate but not quite human, not quite non-human, one of the base pairs is deviated.”’

2008: ‘(Dr. Jeff Meldrum) had completed his second trip to the lake and had the opportunity to be flown to a village of Native Canadians that was relatively close to Snellgrove.  They had told Dr. Meldrum that sasquatch was a part of their culture and they had seen it for years, and some had sightings fairly recently – another example of the bigfoot/sasquatch relationship with Native Americans.’
