The witness lives in Wisconsin, USA and after her father passed away she inherited his cabin in the Northern wilderness of Ontario. The father bought this cabin later in life and the witness went there with her father. The witness in an oncologist and her father was a family medical doctor. Both her and her father have a pilot’s license and she also inherited her father’s Cesna 172P plane. It was quicker to access this remote cabin in Ontario.
The cabin is small, with one room below and a small sleeping loft above. It is very rustic with no water or electricity. She went up to the cabin in Ontario for a week in 2019; the witness was always careful about trash and black bears, since her and her father had seen bears in the area before.
One night in July, the witness went to bed in the loft of the cabin, and after some time she needed to use the outhouse. She decided to go to the outhouse with a lantern, went and climbed the latter back to the loft to get to sleep. She didn’t see or hear anything unusual, and did not get any feeling of being watched, but the witness was half asleep during the trip to the outhouse and back.
The witness was beginning to drift into sleep, and the two small windows were open in the loft. Then she heard the sound of the outhouse door open outside. It creaked open and closed once, then twice and then a third time; on the third time the door was slammed shut with a great force. On the third noise the witness sat up; thoughts went through her mind to explain away what it could have been, the wind, an animal? The door was latched shut and the wind could not have opened it.
Then she worried about a human trespasser. The witness states the property was very large and remote; a person would have to walk a long way through difficult terrain to get to the cabin where the witness was staying.
The witness then tried to remember if she had dead bolted the front door of the cabin, she wasn’t sure, she may have forgotten to lock it. The witness had everything she needed for self-defence, but it was downstairs on the first floor of the cabin: her light, and her pistol. The witness was getting ready to go down the ladder to check the door, when ‘clear as day, I hear a sound at my cabin door.’
The sound was like something fumbling, then she heard the door open. The cabin was pitch black inside but the witness tried to look down the ladder quietly to see who or what it was. She could not see because it was too dark, then she got hit with a pungent, dirty, wet moldy odour inside the cabin. The witness thought it was a bear, but she wanted to take a look at who or what was down there, so she reached in the dark for the side wall and the top of the ladder, she reached down to the top of the cupboard and was able to get a lantern (a large flashlight).
The witness wasn’t sure if she should turn on the light and risk angering a bear, which could climb up the ladder to get to the witness. She heard the animal downstairs bump into things and things were falling over.
The witness decided to flip the light on and shine the light on the animal that was inside the cabin. She looked down and she first saw a bear, and her firearm was downstairs where she could not go. She continued to look at the animal and the bear looked strange to her; it had long arms, hands and as she saw the creature from the back and could see large shoulders and movable thumbs.
The witness states that she had studied animal anatomy during med school and she was contemplating a zoological career; she had spent weekends working for her dad’s friend who was a vet. The witness confirmed that this was not a bear. The creature was going through the kitchen shelves, picking up and sniffing everything within reach. The creature banged a tin can containing (Nutter butter) cookies against a wall, trying to open it.
The witness became frightened. The creature’s fur was a dark brown or black colour and looked very shiny and clean under the light. The hair on its back seemed shorter, and split down the sides towards the front of its body. The hair on its body and back of legs seemed longer and shaggier.
At some point the creature realized there a light shining on it, and started to turn around towards the witness, but didn’t fully because the light was so bright. It covered its face with a large hand, and was lashing out with the other, knocking over everything within reach inside the cabin. The witness saw the creature’s physical strength and how it knocked over a large heavy table against a wall, ‘like it was a box of Kleenex’.
The witness sensed that the creature was looking for a way out, but was blinded by the light, so she moved the light away towards the door of the cabin. The creature ‘renewed its attack on the tin cans’ in the kitchen area. The creature broke open the tin of cookies, she heard the bag crinkle as it laid the bag on the wood board of the counter.
The witness became frustrated and wanted the creature, she now called a Sasquatch, to leave. She yelled at it. The creature turned and looked up at her and she saw its face. She describes what she saw as the feeling of ‘staring down at a gorilla who thinks you’re challenging him’; that’s the look she got. She said the face she saw ‘radiated danger’, but the creature did not react until she yelled at it. Sha moved back from the edge of the loft and shined the light toward the wall with the door and waited.
She heard things thrown on the ground, tossed, broken and moved. She did not dare look but at some point she heard the cabin door creak and then silence. The witness ‘counted to 100’ making sure the creature was gone away; the cabin was in shambles and she could still smell a lingering stench from the Sasquatch. The witness was able to get downstairs quickly and lock the cabin door.
The witness states that she had a lot of food missing, and she did not have any food smells outside of the cabin. It is possible the Sasquatch saw her light when she went outside to the outhouse.
The witness states that the height of the loft is just over seven feet high, the witness estimates that the creature was maybe between six or seven tall, and thinks it may have been a juvenile Sasquatch.
The witness continues to visit the cabin and wishes to remain anonymous due to her career.
