Daniel Trask was from Waterloo, Ontario and enjoyed canoeing in the lakes and rivers of the region of Temagami. In the summer of 2011, he spent the summer at Temagami enjoying the outdoors and creating rock structures.
‘The Iroquois Indians used to call this region their home. Hundreds of years after they left the region, their pictographs are still visible on large rocks on Diamond Lake.’
…
‘The region has as much water as land, and the land that does exist can be very swampy and wet.’ - David Paulides
‘On November 3, 2011, Daniel left his Waterloo home and drove to a location on Red Squirrel Road and Camp Wanapitei.’
He parked his car at this spot adjacent to Lake Temagami, took out his snowshoes and supplies and headed into the bush.
After an undetermined period of time, his family grew concerned; friends and family came to the area looking for him. They eventually found his car but didn’t know in which direction he had hiked. Law enforcement began the search with rescue teams, canines and rescuers on foot. They found nothing. The search was eventually called off.
On May 20, 2012, paddlers were on the north end of Diamond Lake when they noticed something unusual, across from the pictographs on the lake. They found Daniel’s snow pants and coat. Searchers went back to the area and on the eastern bank of the lake they found Daniel’s campsite, just north of his pants. They eventually found his sleeping bag, even further north from the campsite.
After several weeks of additional searches, Daniel still could not be found. Posters were distributed about Daniel missing and what he was wearing at the time of his disappearance. Daniel was very familiar with the area, and remained missing.
‘In my past books I have written stories about people who disappeared and were subsequently found in small pieces, yet their pants were found fully intact with no bite marks.’

MAY 2015: The remains of Daniel Trask's body were later found near Lady Evelyn Lake, close to the town of Temiskaming Shores (CBC News).
