CHASED BY A WILD MAN
The Weird Adventure of Two Manitoba College Students.
Brandon Sun - October 8, 1887
Th article states that two young gentlemen, ‘Mssrs McEwen and Mulvey’, who were teachers southwest of the city, were on their way to attend the convention of teachers. They left the place (where they were staying) late in the evening with a group of friends following behind with their dog. The pair separated from the group, and headed northward.
‘They had not gone far before they entered a wheat field, and were somewhat surprised to see an apparition in the shape of a man spring from behind the shocks, and run towards them.’
…
‘The figure approaching nearer, though, gave them gave them a close and better view, and they discovered that it was a man with nothing upon him but a breech cloth, his hair, long and dishevelled, flying in the wind, and was foaming at the mouth. The man was coming towards them at a rapid gait, and they ordered him to stand back. At this he commenced to bark, and the young men to run.’
…
‘His bounds are described as being leaps such as they have never seen a man take. His barking caused the dog that was with the young men to bark, and hearing this, he immediately turned and ran in the direction of the noise.’
…
‘The time was about one o’clock in the morning, and the night was well lighted by the moon. The neighbours turned out to follow, but he had either hidden himself or got far away before they turned out.’
